Do you remember the big rush to grab Squidoo URL’s? After Tiffany Dow came out with her excellent Squidoo report, every internet marketer on the planet got on Squidoo and tried to snap up their keywords.
And more power to ‘em!  Squidoo is where it’s at for backlinks to your own sites, as well as creating their own seperate little income streams. A well-tended lens can rank very well in the SE’s.
Now…Â Another URL grab-a-palooza is ready to begin.
Promoted by an oft-Dugg Lifehacker post, the new “mini-blog” service Tumblr is enjoying quite a spike in traffic.
What Tumblr allows you to do is create little mashups of RSS feeds, pictures, videos, links, favorite quotes & chat sessions. The point here is not to be a full-on blog, but more a repository for the interesting stuff you find on the web, sans lengthy explanation.
Since it pipes in RSS feeds automatically, it’d behoove you to create a keyword-targeted Tumblr account & pull your niche blog feeds in.  That’ll create backlinks for your site, as well as pull in actual people interested in your topic. Also pull in YouTube videos by user or tag.
Unlike Squidoo, Tumblr is *not* a made-by-a-marketer-for-marketers kinda site. Respect the community, don’t spam the crap out of it. You can do all sorts of cool things with Tumblr without having to overwhelm them!
They’ve also added a neat little bookmarklet – check your Publisher page once you’ve opened an account.
By using the custom template function in your “Settings,” you can add Analytics code as well (or whatever tracking system you prefer). I’ll report back shortly with some stats – I’m curious to see how much traffic the network brings. I presume not much quite yet – the only way of finding other Tumblr blogs is via the Radar – but expect that to change right away – as such, grab your URL’s now!

Great tip. I hadn’t heard about Tumblr yet, but I’m definitely going to use them. I’ve already created two accounts — one for my own use and one to create links for a client.
My Tumblr
My client’s Tumblr
Tumblr seems to be acting a bit weird right now, so the links might not work.
Nice find. I am going to check it out.
Michelle,
I tried your post link to your tmblr account. Seems to be broken.
I tried to sign up, but the server must be slow today…kept timing out.
I’ve signed up but they seem to be running slowly. I’ve found twitter to be a nice source of _interested_ traffic when posting new blog post titles, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this performs in a similar fashion.
They must be under load though – thats 10 minutes and my password still hasn’t come through.
I wish everyone was as open with marketers as Seth is at Squidoo
I have been sick of cloak and dagger socialization, but I understand why – too many people spam! Thanks for the info, Michelle! Tiff
PS – I have a new Squidoo lens: http://www.squidoo.com/plrminimart/ but now I’ll see what this other site is.
Just found this post while researching Tumblr. I created my Domains at Retail Tumblr to see how I like it
