Facebook Marketing Actually Gets Interesting

by Michelle MacPhearson

I’ve not been a huge fan of Facebook for marketing purposes because having a crapload of friends makes it quite difficult to interact with them and manage your Facebook experience.

Facebook made an announcement yesterday that actually makes Facebook marketing viable for the average person.  Facebook “fan” pages just got revamped and behave more like a regular profile page (except you can still message all your fans).  What does this mean to you?  Big things:

Tonight, myself and my Internet Marketing This Week colleagues (Ed Dale, Lynn Terry & Paul Colligan) will hop on a live Ustream broadcast to discuss the changes at 7pm EST.  Watch it here.

Lest you think this is old hat, let me assure you – THIS IS HUGE, a true game-changer, a REALLY BIG FREAKIN’ DEAL.

Join us on the LIVE broadcast at 7pm EST tonight right here!

(This is an Internet Marketing This Week first too – we’ve never gone live).

Join my Facebook Page to see how I’m using it in my marketing.

Sounds great – I’m gonna check my calendar now and spread the word. And you’re right, that fan page change completely re-does the landscape.

I’ve actually found that the average person doesn’t need more than 100 friends on FB to make the experience about as effective as having 10k email subscribers. It takes a non-traditional, laid back approach to marketing, but then, look at the environment of FB itself…

Thanks for sharing this great news Michelle. It inspired me to spend some more time on Facebook. I’ll have to re-listen to the ustream recording to fully comprehend how HUGE these changes really are. In any case I will now encourage more people to join Dr Claude Windenberger on facebook .

I heard on the TWIT podcast that Gary Vanyerchuck of Wine Library TV who has a huge following was able to contact Facebook and they transferred his friend list to a fan page. I think this would be helpful to personal brands that have a lot of followers but I am not interested in becoming a fan of any brand except ones that are real people like Gary Vanyerchuck or someone similar.

Loved the call Michelle. Even though I’m always on Twitter, Facebook is definitely a place that I haven’t explored yet. It mainly gets me confused.
But with all of the buzz and all of the people there I better get to learning it ;-)
Thanks,
Eren
