Free Questions Weekend

I’ve been busy with lots of side projects lately, so I thought I’d spend the weekend answering YOUR questions.

Post your question below, in the comments. It can be about SEO, marketing tactics, link building, social media, how many cats I have, whatever. It’s all fair game.

Whoever asks the best question will receive free admission to 30 Minute Backlinks. If you already own 30 Minute Backlinks, I’ll hook you up with something else of equal value.

I’ll respond to the questions in a separate post, so everyone gets the benefit of the answers.

Your breadth of experience in social media, link building and SEO would be helpful in answering the following question. If a friend of yours had a brand new web site and wanted to generate targeted traffic quickly, what 3 specific actions would you advise them to take?

Nofollow…. really?

I’ve noticed in my Google Webmaster Tools page for lionsgatemodels.com that some of the inbound links are in fact nofollow links. What gives? Obviously Google must follow them in some sense otherwise they wouldn’t show up there, but do they or do they not “count”?

This is previous question I asked that I felt didn’t get any attention. Being that this is a Qestions post I’ll give it a shot here.

Now I know obviously, the more sales you make the more you are succeeding. Well, what if you aren’t making any sales. What if your still tryna get that winning sales formula and execution right?
How do you know when your close or just plain screwing up?

For instance, I’ve bought and understood a lot of the more popular/successful programs and used there tactics for my own businesses but I haven’t made any sales on anything I’ve promoted. I’ve gotten Google rankings and everything. However, I recently got a sale, of an ebook in the back office of one my campaigns, that not only have I never promoted, never read, or even knew about nor was able to find the sales page for. To top it off, The purchaser is from India and doesn’t even speak english!

Make sense of that!

I’m as resilient as they get and giving up isn’t an option. I’ve been a freelancer my whole life so I know how to stick through the tough times. With that said, how does one get a personal barometer of what their doing? I mean, maybe you have the right marketing style and game plan, but not for the products and campaigns you select. How do you recognize the difference?

Michelle,

If YOU were just getting online today as somewhat of a newbie (you already know how to use email & maneuver online), and decided that you wanted to create income online, knowing what you know, what would you do to get started the right way in a “step-by-step” fashion? And also begin using up-to-date techniques that really work (not the old methods that worked 2 years ago that have “played out”).

And, what business model would you use to create this income?

Thanks

So, how many cats do you have? Just kidding. My question is about the keywords in the meta tags. I’ve heard that robots don’t take them into account much any more, but do they still punish you for having a lot of them? Because I have a site that I put a lot of keywords in the meta tag and I can’t seem to rank high on the search engines with it. I’m doing great with my other sites following your tips. But this particular site (bajaunlimited.com) seems to be punished. What’s the maximum number of keywords you recommend in the meta tags? Thanks! Mike.

In SMD you mention outsourcing after using the services mentioned at least once yourself. You recommend AOV for link building. Could you explain a bit more of how you would interact with a service like that? Do you send videos of what you want done? Do you provide a written document? How is it working with someplace like that so that the person working on your project clearly gets what you want done?

Outside of SEO and PPC, what are 5 other online promotion techniques that have produced profitable traffic for you?

Hey Michelle,
In 30 Mintue backlinks you say that once we create our software we need to add it to our web server. Now how do we do that if we only have a blog because all I have right now is a blogger account that I use as my website to promote my products. Do I have to download a FTP?

Hello Michelle
I’ve been using your advice since the TDC in August, so Mahalo for the great Social Media Daily Blueprint you provide for free.

Now, Im evaluating a purchase of your 30 minutes backlink and Im trying to figure out whether it will provide me with what I am looking for. I have understood (I think) from your links to the case study page, that it has to do with creating, for example a screen savor software with a built in link in the code, where you then post this to shareware directories. That’s pretty cool and for me to spend time figuring out how to do all that (plus how to promote the software), I would say that I rather buy your program to guide me and save me time.
Now my question is, do you teach in the program about how to develop other types of software’s (other than screen savors)?
Also, I think I saw in a post from one of your customers that there was a members area; what does the members area provide?

Cheers
ErikO

Have you ever used anything from therichjerk.com if so what is your take on it? Would you recommend it? He has implemented a new video from the last time I checked it out, I already have hosting so his free site does me no good cause I have to use his host but other than that I’m interested. I do also like how you get a “free site” all you have to do is get hosting here where my sites work (which is a sales tactic if I’ve ever seen one) so he plugs his affiliate or reseller business whichever one he happens to be.

Should meta title tags be considered “set in stone” once a page has been spidered — i.e., is there any potential negative/SEO damage that might be done by changing a meta title tag from, e.g., “California Spas” to “California Spa Vacations” (and making the appropriate keyword phrase change throughout the article at the same time, of course)? Thanks, Michelle!
