I don’t think buying text links is necessary bad. It’s fine if the link is relevant to what’s being posted. However, if the doesn’t add or detracts value from the content, then that’s when the link/site should be penalized.

Just a short addon for your sayings above and, if permited, an article recommendation for your readers.

And finally, to relate to Andy’s problem, yes, rapid bursts in your link building program followed by not so productive fazes, could get your website sandboxed

Thanks for sharing Michelle, I really needed those backlinks. But one thing I noticed is that some of those sites don’t load up and some domains are expired. You have to go through the existing links one by one to make sure you placed your link on a good site.

But I’m not really complaining since it was free, I just hope I get some good link juice because my website is thirsty.

I went and did this too. Wouldn’t ever spend the money for their service though. Most of the content seems to be scraped from article directories and the blogs are not impressive.

I pinged all the pages that have my backlinks, at pinogmatic.

I am nervous of using techniques such as these to be honest, but it is certainly worthy of a test to a spoke in a link wheel.

Thanks for sharing Michelle I’m always scared to use a new service for my main sites so I was hoping to point a few of the links to a Squidoo lens, but it won’t let me, darn. I picked up a few contextual links for a fairly new site I just put up, so we’ll see how it goes. Hoping it gives the site a nice little start in backlink building.

It depends on how old your site is, how many links you already had pointing to it and what kind of links they were (see the post I referenced on Link Mixology).

Hi. I signed up today. And put in place 15 new sidebar links to an ezine article. Perhaps coincidentally, the article that had been # 1 in Google for several days (after steadily climbing up over the last month) dropped to #407.

Ouch!

Too many links, too fast? Can Google actually learn/adapt that quickly? Should I delete the links? Nothing else changed today so I have to image there is some connection.

Any advice would be appreciated.

@Martin – I can see all mine in Yahoo.

Remember that whether a page is on Google for a certain keyphrase has no bearing on whether your link was found or not.

And don’t ever link from your site to these sites, that defeats the whole purpose of it being a 1 Way link!!

I have signed up with them a couple of months ago, I set up 11 sidebar links. When I look up my target URL in Yahoo site explorer, I see none of those links… (you can check it yourself, it’s the url linked to this profile).
Links are on blogs with content from ezinearticles, those pages are not in google for phrases they contain.
Maybe it would work if I sent some link juice to those pages but I’m not sure google would like my site linking to those neighborhoods.
