Well four of five days after creating my toolbar and following all the steps to promote it the results are good. For my target keyphrase on Google.com I'm up from #10 to #5. I haven't made any backlinks elsewhere as part of the experiment. Looks like it works! It'll be interesting to see if it maintains position over the next week or two. Look for a long tail keyword without so much competition that still contains the main keyphrase you want to rank for one day. I.E. the keyword you'd *really* like is "apple iphone" - a more attainable keyphrase could be "custom apple iphone hacks." That second phrase still contains your main keyword phrase, so you're gaining rank for it while actually working with a phrase you have a chance at, initially.
