“The Pill Gates Profit Principles” by Jo Han Mok (and the mysterious Pill Gates) was released late last week. I picked up a copy as it’s about the health supplement industry, which I’d like to branch into shortly, and because Jo Han Mok has an interesting sales process I like to observe – more on that later.
Meet Pill Gates / “The Pill Gates Profit Principles” By Jo Han Mok Review
It’s an ebook, and it weighs in at 34 pages. At the $10 price tag, that’s totally acceptable and even generous. The whole $7 trend has led to a proliferation of 10-page reports. Which can be great, I’m all for cutting out the BS and getting right into content… But I digress.
Meet Pill Gates / The Pill Gates Profit Principles is an interview between Jo Han Mok & Pill Gates, Jo Han Mok asking the questions, Pill Gates answering.
Turns out Pill Gates is something of a mogul in the health supplements (vitamins, herbals, etc.) market, having got his start selling hoodia when it was brand-new on the market and since branching out into anything and everything, from diet products to herbal sexual enhancers, and the more tame products like supplements for cholesterol & sleep disorders.
It’s all about direct sales of physical products, using drop shippers, selling people their hopes and dreams.
Now, what really interests me about the Meet Pill Gates / Pill Gates Profit Principles ebook is how fantastically is moves the reader from learning about the industry, learning about the difficulties of obtaining product, manufacturing, etc., and at the very end – Surprise! – Pill Gates lets us know he’s actually moved away from direct sales and is now a distributor.
I.E. he’s the guy who’ll drop ship product for YOU should you decide the industry is something you want to get into. And with the entirety of the ebook talking about how great an industry it is to be in, you’ve likely already concluded that you want a piece of it. And that’s exactly when you learn this tasty tidbit – Pill Gates does it all (formulates product, has it manufactured, drop ships for you, etc.).
And then – and this is so classic of Jo Han Mok’s stuff – they don’t give you a big pitch, or make it sales-y – that’d be too obvious. They don’t even give you Pill Gates’ real name, web address, anything.
They *do* give you the name of a newly discovered herb they’ve arranged to manufacture supplements of, indicating it “is seen and promoted as the next Hoodia. Its going to be huge and might even surpass the level awareness attained by Hoodia.”
So not only are you already convinced you want in to the industry, you’ve now been told the “golden ticket” “next big thing” and you know the main supplier for it! And it’s Pill Gates!
Talk about a great back-end (for Jo Han Mok and Co., at least)!
Now, the cynic in me of course believes this is all just an upsell to do business with Pill Gates’ distributor company. And I’ve see Jo Han Mok produce cheap entry-level products that *do* teach and provide content, but also leave the user super hungry for more. I mean, at this point, you’re left thinking the health supplements industry is awesome, but you’ve got no where to get your pills from. Plus, you’ve been pre-qualified by buying this low-dollar product, so it’s known you’ve got a credit card and can spend some money.
That said, I’ve not yet received an email or other info on where I get get my greedy little hands on some of Pill Gates’ new supplement. So there’s been no upsell thus far… Interesting.
Is it an attempt to get a decent # of sales before hitting us with the upsell? Or just giving readers enough time to get all frothy at the mouth, anticipating more info? Or, perhaps this product, which did provide a great base of info on the supplements industry, is a one-off and there’s no back-end, upsell, “recommended resources,” or otherwise.
But I’ve seen too much of Jo Han Mok’s stuff and I really doubt this is the last we’ve seen of The Pill Gates Profit Principles / Meet Pill Gates.
My recommendation: Well, it’s $10, so it shouldn’t break the bank. If you’re already deep in the niche, this won’t be news to you. If you’ve got an interest in the supplements industry, it’s a worthwhile read. If you’re not interested in that market, I think it’s a great read anyway to see how subtely the conversation turns to Pill Gates’ distributorship and watch the coming developments (which I’m 99% certain are coming) – this is a great marketing technique and Mok is a master of it. The salespage is a good read too, and is classic of Mok’s stuff.
