Ryan Deiss’ Ranting

by Michelle MacPhearson

There’s something about Ryan Deiss’ rants that I just love. He’s one of maybe 4 guys who’s emails I always make sure to read, because they crack me up and comtains some smart marketing.

Deiss has always got something to say, and he puts it in such a way that it’s sure to piss someone off (and therefore get them talking). Little mini-marketing soap operas every time he sends out a newsletter.

My favorite bits from today’s mailing:

It still cracks me up when so-called marketers get so offended anytime someone tries to sell them something. That’s like a dentist getting upset when his wife tells him he needs to buy a new toothbrush.

Ain’t that the truth! And…

Forums are the ultimate way to “play work” without actually getting anything accomplished. You feel like you’re working hard on your business because you’re talking and reading about Internet marketing, but last I checked you can’t deposit forum posts in the bank.

In fact, that’s probably why so many of the forum regulars are so darn cynical. They feel like they should be make a lot of money because they “work so hard”, but in reality they accomplish nothing and are paid accordingly. It’s kind of sad if you think about it.

This touches on a whole ‘nother issue I’ve been waiting to post about. I’m so flipping sick and tired of forum posters sauntering in and guys getting into what amounts to an argument about who’s got the bigger wee-wee. It’s all a pissing match, a “I’m smarter then you,” contest. Truth is, most of those guys aren’t making shit for money because they’re too busy posting on forums. And most of the “advice” they give is untested and speculative – something they read some where else.

There are times I want to contribute to a discussionm and genuinely help a newbie but wind up frustrated because Mr. “I’m Compensating for My Lack of Both Income and Girth” forum “expert” bullshits his way to super-stardom and leads his little pack of lemmings along with him right off a cliff.

So there’s my rant to go right along with Deiss’.

Call To Action: get on his list @ the Profit Diary to see what he’s got cooking.

Edited to add: Forums can still be a cool place to learn – but keep away from anyone who seems too vested in being “right,”  or who could be nicknamed “King Swaggercock” by his approach…  :-)

I, too, think that Ryan is a rare breath of fresh air in the polluted Internet Marketing world.

Great post, and your words about being careful with forum advice is solid. And thanks for your posts over on the Warrior board (I tracked this blog down from your post on the Ryan Deiss thread).

Best regards,
Tom

I too believe that Ryan is a top man. He seems to have learned a lot from Frank Kern too which is no bad thing.
