**** This message went out to one of my email lists tonight and I thought I’d share here as well. ****
Hey <$firstname$>,
This is an incredible news story I happened upon and wanted to share with you:
Basically, it talks about how department stores will be implementing new technology into their fitting rooms that allows people to communicate, share outfits, rate clothing, etc. So, a customer could find out, via the system, what other people are buying to go to the clubs that weekend.
It’s social networking offline, in a very traditional, retail environment.
If your business is online, think about the implications this kind of viral, word-of-mouth social networking could have on your business - and how you can get people talking about you! That’s the key!
If you do have an offline component to your business, this article should have your brain reeling with possibilities. Department stores may have deep pockets and fancy technology, but I bet you can come up with some cool, hip ways to encourage communication between your customers and prospects.
Think about online ‘tag’ boards, commenting (there are scripts available that allow comments on regular HTML pages, not just blogs), social bookmarking, video - encourage your customers and prospects to participate in all of these media about YOUR product or service. Get them talking, they will create the buzz for you. That’s the beauty of the new web, Web 2.0.

There are so many incredible resources online right now to get people talking about you! I hope you’re taking advantage!
Best,

END EMAIL BROADCAST ***************
I just love this idea because it’s such a merging of online and offline, of old school and Web 2.0, of the hipsters with the fuddy-duddies.
And it got my head spinning with ideas to encourage communication between myself and my customers and prospects. Not just utilizing the websites that are already available, i.e. MySpace, but also creating environments within my own sites that spark comments and sharing.
So think about it. Innovate.
