This is another message that went out to subscribers I’m reposing for the benefit of all.
That said, IM’ers should be well aware of this little trick already. If you’re not, read up!
This is really simple and should absolutely be done for all your sites, if you haven’t already.
**********
Quick tip for you today on getting a bit more traffic to
your website.
I’m going to lay it all out for you, right here in this
email.
A little background: There’s a website that’s dedicated to
letting people share the sites they love with others, and
letting people discover new websites with a “random” kind of
feature. Basically, it lets you select categories you’re
interested in, and it’ll display other sites people have
recommended within that category.
The goal of what I’m about to explain is to get your site
listed in this directory for others to find and enjoy!
Got it? Let’s go!
First, head to http://www.stumbleupon.com and hit the big
green “Sign Up” button. You’ll be directed to a sign-up
page - fill out the form, select your interests, and hit the
“Download Now” button.
The site will then initiate the installation of the
StubmleUpon toolbar. It’ll probably ask you if it’s ok to
close Internet Explorer while it installs, and will
automatically restart once it’s done.
As soon as the toolbar is done installing, you’ll see it up
there in your browser bar - likely with some instructions in
a little pop-up balloon.
If you click the “Stumble” button on the toolbar, you’ll be
sent to a random site other recommend, from the categories
you said you were interested in.
Now, navigate to your own webpage.
Once you’re there, click the little green “thumbs up” hand
in the toolbar. A window will pop-up asking you to enter
your review (enter in something positive here), be
descriptive, use relevant keywords and good spelling and
grammar. There is also a list of topics - click the topic
that is most relevant to your site. If you don’t see one
you like, there’s PLENTY to pick from in the dropdown menu.
Then, select “yes” or “no” as to whether the site contains
adult content, and the correct language. Click “Submit” and
you’re done.
Your site is ready to be discovered by the 2 million
StumbleUpon users!
**** HOT TIPS ****
Forward this email to your friends, fans, whomever! Tell
them to install the StumbleUpon toolbar and give your site a
big “Thumbs Up!” The more thumbs up you get, the more often
your page will be seen by other StumbleUpon users interested
in your category.
It’s a good idea to rate some other websites as well - maybe
some you frequent, friend’s pages, or just hit the “Stumble”
button on the toolbar and click “Thumbs Up” or “Thumbs Down”
on what comes up.
Finally, don’t overlook the possibility of rating not just
your homepage, but inside pages of your site as well. If
they’ve got interesting content others would appreciate,
Stumble them!
I hope this little traffic tip gives you a boost in your
daily website visitors! Remember to categorize your site
properly, it really helps in getting others to click the
“Thumbs Up” button!
