That's a good question, Kermit. :-) But first, people need to understand that the duplicate content "penalty" is an utter myth. The worst that will happen if you have duplicate content is that Google will not index the page, since that content is already in their index. People make it sound like your whole site will be dropped from Google if you copy a few paragraphs from an article distribution site, which is simply not true.

Then, you have to remember that the duplicate content filter looks at the entirety of your webpage. First, your site is designed differently then mine and other sites participating in the Carousel, so Google's spider will see different content from each of the sites.

Also, you're only copying and pasting the information in between the red bits. By adding your own entry and conclusion, you've padded the directions with unique content. And you're dropping one site from the list and adding another, which makes every person's entry different. Finally, in a blog, comments like these provide even more content, making each and every page participating in the carousel very unique.

I hope that explains it a bit - and clears up some misconceptions people have.

If I cut and paste the instructions onto a post, won't I be posting duplicate content and get spanked by Google?

No, it's not spamming because you're posting on your own site.

Pierro, using "add me to your Technorati Fav's" as your anchor text is, actually, probably not the best move.

First, I doubt people search Google that often for that term. Second, you want your site to rank in the search engines for something that it is about. If you were to end up raking high in the search engines for the phrase "add me to your Technorati Fav's" people would visit your site and find out that it's not in english... And that it's ot about Technorati Favs.

Instead, it looks like you write about social media, blogging and Web 2.0 in German? So you'd want to rank well for the term "social media" in German. That's who your audience is, that's the phrase they type into Google to find you.
