Twofold: Video Sharing

Now that video is mainstream, you probably know you should be taking any videos you make and submitting them to the video sharing sites.

If you’re not making videos… You should! (Sidenote: if you’re stumped what to upload to Bittorrent after reading my post about Bittorrent traffic generation, make a video about your topic or website.) It’s simple and easy to make a video with your digital camera (maybe an interview?) or even cell phones will take short videos. Webcams are cheap nowadays too. There’s also a cost-effective way to take screen capture videos.

So, you make a video via one of the methods above, you upload it to YouTube and you’re done, right? Nah… It’s never that easy.

Let’s talk facts here:

1. Links to your website are good, both for generating human traffic and for the effect backlinks have on your search engine rankings. Many video sharing sites allow you to link to your website after uploading a video.

2. I’m going to assume you’re adding your URL to your videos in some way - watermark, at the beginning/end, whatever. So with or without the backlink from a video sharing site, the more places you can upload your video the better - as people will find your video, watch it and hopefully visit your URL.

Sidenote: Most of these strategies require YOUR content to be good. I’m sorry to say that if your software, video, ebook, music, writing etc. suck, people *will* see it, but they won’t buy/tell friends/visit your website. And since that’s what social media is all about - people creating and sharing - you’ll see little to no results, if indeed, your work does suck. If that’s the case, re-think what you’re doing and consider how you can add more value or interest to what you’re offering.

We now know that video submission to video sharing sites is good both for backlink generation and organic traffic generation.

Today I’m giving you my *personal* list of sites that I submit my videos to. I want you to take this list, create an account at each site and upload your videos there.

Yes, it will take some time - that’s a lot of uploading. You’re a big girl. You can manage. :-)

Now, this is the exact same sites I submit my videos on, and that bring me thousands of visitors a month. Each one has different features as far as networking on-site, and perhaps we’ll cover those in a later post. For now, get an account and get your work out there in as many places as possible.

Speaking of videos… another way to earn money and/or generate traffic is to participate in video contests. We just recently produced a music video for Malibu Rum to launch their new Banana Malibu. Now, there isn’t a URL or promotion to our site, but if it wins, it could be worth $25,000!

On the other hand, even though there isn’t a link or URL sprawled across our video, people can click on our YouTube user profile and then we can pack all of our site information on our “channel” (profile page).

With this one, I’m more interested in winning the contest at $25,000. So, PLEASE, check it out and vote for it to WIN! You’ll need a YouTube account to vote. Don’t worry if you don’t have one (you were going to get one anyway if you follow Michelle’s advice!), it’s FREE to join and you won’t get bombarded with spam; it’s just a simple registration.

Anyway, here’s a link to the video we produced for the Banana Malibu Rum contest:

Now GO VOTE!

Thanks Michelle!

I’m on your newsletter and just started reading your blog. Any tips on how we can get the word out on voting for this contest would be greatly appreciated! There’s a fairly short window of opportunity to get the word out to as many people as possible.

I started posting on as many forums as I participate in (in the appropriate categories, of course) and have gotten a somewhat decent response. But now I’m at a loss as to what to try next.

Thanks again!

Good point! I have only uploaded a couple of video tutorials, about 6 months ago, to youtube and felt positive results within weeks. Thanks for reminding me about this!
