Why I Review (And What I Don’t)

I’ve been doing a few reviews lately, and have been asked why… I thought I’d explain, as well as give you a bit of my philosophy surrounding reviews of other IM products.

First, I like reviewing things.  I buy, well, almost everything that comes onto the internet marketing market.  Seriously.  I’m a glutton for hearing the same thing from 5 guys 5 different ways.

Second, most of the stuff I buy, read, test, etc. goes totally unmentioned here.  That’s usually because I’ve found other products that do the same thing (or explain the same method), or the product was “ok” but not outstanding.  So when I do find something that I really, really like, something that keeps me up at night thinking about the possibilites, something that spurs me into action as soon as I get it, I do mention it here.  Because it’s a rare product that does so.

There are things I buy that I don’t mention for other reasons.  A book on “social marketing” came out recently and you never heard a word from me about it, despite social marketing being my focus.  Oh, I read the book, for sure.  Cover to cover.  It sucked.  It was filled with speculation and filler B.S. that took what should’ve been a 7-page report and made it something like 100 pages.  No one has the time for that crap.

I could have come here to the blog and talked about it sucking…  And that’s something I’m kind of in flux about.  I don’t want to spend my time bashing other people’s stuff.  I’m not that kind of person and I intentionally devote my energy to more positive lines of thought.  By the same token, I do feel something of an obligation to tell my readers of I do think something is lame.  So that’s a dilemma I’m working out on an individual, product-by-product basis.

If you do have a question about my feeling towards a particular method, book, software, etc. I’m happy to answer them.  Most likely I own it.

Now, anything I talk about, whether I have good things to say or not, if it’s got an affiliate link, I’ll use it.  Period.  I’m a marketer.  If I say mean, horrible things about a product and you come to the conclusion that you want to buy it after reading my post, I darn well want that commission.  Sometime I like things enough to buy private label or resale rights to them.  When I talk about the product, I’ll direct you to my link.  Duh.   This is our business.
